Reconstitution Guide
Laboratory technique for lyophilized peptides · Research use only
Peptides ship as lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder and must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic (BAC) water before laboratory use. That's why a 10 ml BAC Water vial is included with every order. This page covers standard bench technique and the resulting solution concentrations for 2 ml and 3 ml reconstitution volumes.
Technique
1 — Prepare the bench. Work on a clean surface. Have the peptide vial, the BAC water vial, a sterile syringe, and alcohol wipes ready. Let both vials reach room temperature.
2 — Sanitize the stoppers. Wipe the rubber stopper of both vials with a fresh alcohol wipe and let them air-dry.
3 — Draw the BAC water. Draw your chosen volume (2 ml or 3 ml) from the BAC water vial with the syringe.
4 — Add it slowly, down the glass. Insert the needle through the peptide vial's stopper and let the water run down the inside wall of the vial — never jet it directly onto the powder. Lyophilized peptides are fragile.
5 — Swirl, never shake. Gently swirl or roll the vial until the powder fully dissolves into a clear solution. Shaking can degrade the peptide.
6 — Label and store. Label the vial with contents, concentration, and date. Store reconstituted solutions refrigerated at 2–8 °C away from light, and use within the timeframe appropriate to your protocol.
Resulting concentrations
Concentration = peptide mass ÷ water volume. The table below shows the solution strength for common vial sizes at each reconstitution volume.

Choosing between the two volumes is a matter of working concentration: 2 ml yields a more concentrated solution; 3 ml yields a more dilute one that can be easier to measure precisely in small increments. Both are standard.
Notes
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which suppresses bacterial growth in multi-use vials. Plain sterile water offers no such protection once the stopper has been punctured — use BAC water for any solution kept beyond a single session.
